Privacy Policy
Last updated 29 September 2026
This policy explains what unemployed collects, why, who helps us process it, how long we keep it, and what you can do about it. It covers unemployedapp.com, the app at my.unemployedapp.com and the unemployed browser extension.
Who we are
unemployed is a job search service run by Maan Teckwani, a sole proprietor based in India ("we", "us"). We decide how your information is used, which under India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 makes us responsible for it.
For anything in this policy, including requests about your data and complaints, email hello@unemployedapp.com.
The short version
We collect what the service needs in order to work, and nothing for advertising.
We never sell your information. We do not use your CV, or anything else in your account, to train AI models.
You can delete your account and everything in it yourself, at any time, from Settings.
Information you give us
Your account. When you sign in with Google, Google shares your name, email address and profile picture with us.
Your CV and career history. The documents you upload or the text you paste, and what is read from them: roles, dates, projects, skills and achievements. The original file is not kept, only the text read from it.
Your profile and preferences. The name and contact details you want on your resumes, where you want to work, and the kinds and levels of role you are looking for.
Your face on the wall, if you add one. The display name you pick, your country and the drawn face you choose. These are shown publicly, and nothing else about you is shown with them. If you joined the wall on the unemployed open source site, your entry has moved here and is shown the same way.
What you create with the service. Tailored resumes, outreach drafts, interview preparation and your practice answers, skill roadmaps, project ideas, jobs you paste in or check with the extension, and the applications you track.
Payments. The plan, amount, currency and Razorpay's payment reference. Card and bank details are entered into Razorpay's own window and never reach us.
Information collected automatically
Usage counts. How many of each limited action, such as tailored resumes, you have used this month, so plan limits can be applied.
Product analytics. A few moments are counted so we can see where people get stuck: starting, your CV being read, confirming your profile and your first list of jobs appearing. Each is sent to PostHog with your account's internal id and nothing else. Never your name, your email or anything you wrote.
Page views on unemployedapp.com and my.unemployedapp.com, counted anonymously by Vercel Analytics without cookies. The address is counted without anything after a question mark.
Technical logs. Our hosting records requests, such as IP address, browser, time and page, for a few days, to keep the service running and to investigate faults and abuse.
The browser extension does nothing until you click it. It then reads the job posting on that tab, and sends it to us only when you press Check this job. It does not read your browsing history or your other tabs.
How we use it
To provide the service: reading your CV, showing the jobs that fit what you asked for and which of their skills you have, writing the resumes, messages and preparation you ask for, and keeping track of your applications.
To run your account and plan: signing you in, applying plan limits, and taking and recording payments.
To contact you. The app sends one email on its own: if you upload a CV and do not come back to see your jobs, the next morning it tells you they are ready. It is sent once. We also send messages about your account or payments when they are needed.
To keep the service secure and working, and to improve it using the counts described above.
We do not sell your information, use it for advertising, or use your CV or account content to train AI models. Skill matches and generated text are for your own use, and we make no decisions about you with legal or similar effect.
Information we receive from Google
Signing in with Google gives us your name, email address and profile picture, and nothing else from your Google account. We never see your Google password, contacts, files, calendar or mail.
We use the email address to identify your account and to contact you as described above. If you joined the wall on the unemployed open source site with the same Google account, Google's id for that account is used once, to connect your entry on the wall to your account here. The name and picture are kept with your sign in and are not used for anything else. We do not sell this information, use it for advertising, or share it with anyone except the providers listed below that run the service.
Our use of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
AI processing
To read your CV and to write for you, the relevant text is sent to Google's Gemini API, which processes it and returns the result to us.
We do not use your CV, or anything else in your account, to train AI models.
Skill matches and generated text are produced automatically and can be wrong. Check anything before you send it to an employer.
Who processes it for us
These providers process information on our behalf, only to run the service, under their own security and confidentiality commitments.
| Provider | What for | Where |
|---|---|---|
| Supabase | Sign in, the app's database and file storage | India (Mumbai) |
| Vercel | Hosting for the website, the app and the API | India (Mumbai), served through a global network |
| Google Gemini API | Reading CVs, and writing resumes, messages and preparation | Google's infrastructure, which may be outside India |
| Inngest | Running background tasks. Receives internal ids only | United States |
| Razorpay | Payments | India |
| Resend | Delivering email | United States |
| PostHog | Product analytics, with an internal id only | United States |
Transfers outside India
Some of the providers above process information outside India. We only use providers that protect it under their own security commitments, and we do not transfer information to any country the Government of India has restricted transfers to.
How long we keep it
Your account content is kept until you delete it, or delete your account.
A face on the wall stays until it is removed. Email us and we will remove yours, whether or not you have an account. Deleting your account removes it too.
A resume the app generates is deleted about ten minutes after it is made, unless you mark it as sent. A resume you mark as sent is kept, so you can see what the employer received, until you delete your account.
Payment records are kept for as long as Indian tax law requires, even after an account is deleted. They hold nothing about your CV or career.
Technical logs are kept for a few days. Once your account is deleted, analytics counts can no longer be connected to you.
Deleted information can remain in routine backups for a short time, until those backups expire.
Your rights
Access and correction. You can see and edit your profile, CV details and preferences in the app. To get a copy of what we hold about you, email us.
Deletion. In the app, go to Settings, then Account, then Delete account. That stops any subscription and deletes your CV and everything read from it, your resumes, messages and applications, your face on the wall, and your sign in, straight away.
Withdrawing consent. You can stop using the service and delete your account at any time. This does not affect processing that happened before.
Nominating someone. You can nominate a person to exercise these rights on your behalf if you die or become unable to. Email us to do so.
Complaints. Email hello@unemployedapp.com and we will reply within seven days. If you are not satisfied with our response, you can complain to the Data Protection Board of India.
Security
Every connection is encrypted. Each account can only reach its own data, which the database enforces as well as the app. Secret keys stay on our servers, and payment details never reach them.
No system is perfectly secure. If a breach affects your information, we will tell you, and the authorities, as the law requires.
Children
The service is for people aged 18 and over. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18. If you believe someone under 18 has used it, email us and we will delete their information.
Changes to this policy
When this policy changes, the date at the top changes too. If a change affects how your information is used, we will tell you in the app or by email before it takes effect.
Contact
